For any of you who are concert lovers, I have created a new widget called ConcertGoer, which retrieves concert information from PollStar. It’s a need I’ve had for awhile, so I finally managed to create a widget for it!
And thanks again to all of you for your continued support of Radar In Motion. Just to give you some stats, Radar In Motion has:
- been publicly available since May 2005, when it made its debut on DashboardWidgets,
- been downloaded approximately 1.53 million times,
- spent more than 1 week as the top downloaded widget on Apple’s Dashboard site, and
- never left the top 50 in Apple’s downloaded widgets since it first made the list in July 2005.
So, a happy birthday to Radar In Motion’s trip to the top. It started as nothing more than a project answering a need I had myself that I then released to the public hoping someone else might benefit from it. With all of your feedback, the widget has become so much better, in my opinion. Thank you again for helping make Radar In Motion what it is today!

The Weather Channel changed some things in the format of their pages, meaning Radar in Motion broke if you tried to access a new map or load the widget for the first time. I’ve compensated with Radar In Motion 2.5.3. I know that I’m rather unresponsive to emails and for that I apologize. Work and life in general keeps me very busy. Please know that I do plan to keep working on the widget for the foreseeable future, so when major issues like that come up, I will certainly fix them as soon as I have time. Apologies to those for whom the widget didn’t work for the last few days. I think all should be well now!

I have been getting many messages that Radar In Motion is no longer working. Unfortunately, I won’t be back in front of my Mac until tomorrow evening to see what is going on. If Radar in Motion isn’t working for you at all, don’t worry, I’m hoping to look into it this weekend and get it back to a working state. I suspect weather.com changed their format or something like that.

By the way, I’m aware of the NOAA issues. I’m working on them as we speak and hope to have a fixed version out very soon.

Now that I have Leopard, I can actually try Radar In Motion on it. It led to one more fix, so here is Version 2.5.2. This version also fixes the map of France.

I heard rumors that Leopard caused some Radar In Motion problems. It is my hope that version 2.5.1 takes care of these issues. If not, please let me know.

After a break that was way too long, I have returned with Radar In Motion 2.5 for Dashboard. This new version has the following changes:
- The end of “Invalid Location!” messages thanks to the PopularData ZIP code database. They are providing this database free with no restrictions, so please take the time to go thank them if you have a chance.
- A location highlight box. Hold down the shift key and double-click anywhere on the map to put a small, red box. This can help you quickly locate a specific location on the map. To delete the box, hold down the shift key and double-click within the red box.
Enjoy this new version!

Apologies for being MIA for some time now. I know that you have had to deal with some issues with the software and for that I am sorry. Due to circumstances beyond my control, I was unable to work on the widget for some time. I am in the process of making fixes and enhancements as we speak.
However, I am afraid I’m going to have to announce that I no longer intend to keep up the Yahoo! Widgets version of the widget. Keeping the two in sync is just too hard given my lack of time now and I find there are enough differences in the two systems to make it annoying. I also will not be developing a version for Vista Gadgets or the Google widget engine.
I hope to be posting a new version by week’s end that addresses current problems and adds a new feature or two!

I realize some of you are getting an “invalid location” error when you type in a city in the new version. I believe this only affects people using NOAA and not weather.com. I also am not completely sure it is a problem with the new version or the result of a format change on the part of NOAA that was very close to the time of the new version. My investigations have led me to believe it is the latter, but I can’t be sure. I’ll try to get to it soon, but things are extremely busy here as I just started eight weeks of training at my new job.

I know it’s been awhile, but I have made a few minor updates to the Dashboard version of the widget. A new Yahoo! Widgets version should follow soon. Things have been pretty hectic here, hence the lack of updates. Here is the list of changes:
- Fixed city search for weather.com
- Moved map number button over a bit to prevent accidentally clicking the “-” and removing a map
- Fixed accessing NOAA maps
- Added the ability to slow down forecast maps (a check box in the “Display” section slows forecast maps down to half the animation speed)
